P&HCC offers a wide range of workforce training programs designed to meet the needs of local employers. FastForward is short-term training that leads to a nationally recognized industry credential. Certifications validate your skills and knowledge, enhancing your credibility, job opportunities, and earning potential. Financial assistance is available for FastForward training programs and can cover up to 100% of tuition for eligible students pursuing workforce credentials. Students who qualify may also receive supportive services. We are also proud of the partnerships we share with local community service agencies to extend further support and resources to our students. WCG Program (Workforce Credential Grant)
- Available to Virginia residents.
- Student responsible for first third of tuition (may be eligible for additional funding).
- State pays second third upon successful completion of program.
- State pays final third upon earning credential.

Advanced Manufacturing
Automation and Robotics
Length: 105 Course Hours
Format: Face-to-Face
Purpose: Introduces industrial robotics and explains how they are used in automated systems.
Co-Enrollment: Students must co-enroll in Siemens Mechatronic Systems Certification Program Level 1 and Festo Industry 4.0 Certification Program Level 1: Fundamentals, offering an opportunity to earn two industry-recognized credentials.
Potential Certifications: Students who successfully complete the program will earn the Siemens Mechatronic Systems Certification Program (SMSCP) Level 1 certification and Festo Industry 4.0 Certification Program Level 1 certification

Siemens Mechatronic Systems Certification Program Level 1
Purpose: Prepares students with the skills needed to become a Siemens Certified Mechatronic Systems Assistant.
Description: This program is a comprehensive industry skills certificate in mechatronics systems. Emphasis is placed on efficiently operating complex mechatronic systems, troubleshooting, and foreseeing problems.

Festo Industry 4.0 Certification Program Level One: Fundamentals
Purpose: Introduces students to the fundamental skills related to pursuing a career in Advanced Manufacturing.
Description: Prepares students to be well-rounded machine operators/technicians with responsibility for efficient operation of the equipment. They will ensure the system is running at maximum capacity with an understanding of the role of each component and device. They can identify malfunctions and make minor repairs.

Festo Industry 4.0 Certification Program Level Two: Advanced Mechatronics
Purpose: Prepares students to be skilled technicians able to assess and analyze the system as a whole.
Description: Students build upon the skills developed in Level One. They fine tune those skills and apply them to real-world scenarios. They manage, investigate, repair, and troubleshoot Industry 4.0 systems to maximize operation and process control. They understand how individual components interact with each other to make the whole system run efficiently.

Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS)
Length: 112 Course Hours
Format: Face-to-Face and Live Online
Purpose: This program prepares students with the skills needed to become a certified billing and coding specialist.
Description: Students learn to process patient data for the proper assignment of ICD-10 coding and to prepare and process health insurance claims for reimbursement.
Prerequisites: High School Diploma or GED and Basic Computer Skills
Potential Certification: Students who successfully complete the program will be eligible to take the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) CBCS exam.

Program Learning Outcomes: Students will demonstrate the ability to properly code for illnesses, procedures, and other common medical needs in accordance with insurance standards.
Occupational Objective: CBCS’s have an expansive range of opportunities for employment. Skills gained are essential to hospitals, physicians offices, surgery centers, nursing homes, dental offices, home healthcare agencies, mental health facilities and even insurance companies and consulting firms.
Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA)
Length: 150 Course Hours
Format: Hybrid (face-to-face, supplemented with online learning)
Purpose: This program prepares students with the skills needed to become a certified clinical medical assistant.
Description: Students learn to perform both administrative and patient clinical procedures in a variety of medical settings. Program includes CPR training.
Tasks performed could include:
- Interviewing patients
- Measuring and recording vital signs
- Preparing exam rooms
- Cleaning and sterilizing medical equipment
- Administering injections, topical and oral medications
- Performing venipuncture and point-of-care testing
- Assisting providers with exams and procedures
Prerequisite: High School Diploma or GED
Potential Certification: Students who successfully complete the program will earn CPR certification and will be eligible to take the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) CCMA exam.

- Students will understand the medical assistant’s role in patient-centered care in a variety of medical settings.
- Students will demonstrate skillful delivery of patient care in a variety of medical settings.
Occupational Objective: CCMA’s work in physicians’ offices, hospitals, outpatient clinics, and other healthcare facilities. Getting certified as a medical assistant can enhance your salary, make you more competitive, and build your skill set. Many employers look for candidates with credentials because it provides tangible proof of skills and knowledge.
Certified Nurse Aide (CNA)
Length: 150 Course Hours
Format: Face-to-Face
Purpose: This program prepares students for entry level practice in the health care field in the area of patient care in a variety of health service facilities.
Description: Students learn basic nurse aide care skills with emphasis on the physical, social, emotional, and spiritual needs of patients. Covers procedures, communication, and interpersonal relations; observation, charting, and reporting; safety and infection control; anatomy and physiology; personal care, nutrition, and patient feeding; death and dying. Program includes CPR training and a 48-hour clinical that provides guided nurse aide experiences for practicing skills in the clinical setting.
Potential Certification: Students who successfully complete the CPR class will receive American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification. Students who successfully complete the program will be eligible to take the Virginia State Board of Nursing’s National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP) exam.

Clinical Agency Requirements: Students will be required to undergo mandatory drug screening and criminal background check. A negative drug screen and criminal background check are required to be eligible for clinical learning experiences. Students may also be required to complete a medical physical examination and/or wear a face mask or face shield while on site, as mandated by the clinical agency. *If not willing or able to meet these guidelines, P&HCC would have no way to meet the educational needs of the student for completion of the program.
Program Learning Outcomes:
- Demonstrate skillful delivery of patient care at the nurse aide level of preparation.
- Perform a comprehensive practical skill assessment with accuracy.
Occupational Objective: CNA’s are eligible for employment in hospitals, skilled/residential nursing facilities, home care, physician offices, or other health related facilities.
Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT)
Length: 127 Course Hours
Format: Hybrid (face-to-face, supplemented with online learning)
Purpose: Prepares students to serve a vital role in the healthcare industry as a certified phlebotomy technician.
Description: Students are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to collect blood specimens for laboratory analysis. Program includes a 36-hour internship, providing guided phlebotomy experiences where students can apply learned principles and techniques.
Prerequisite: High School Diploma or GED
Potential Certification: Students who successfully complete the program will be eligible to take the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) CPT exam.

Supplies and Fees: Tuition includes cost of required textbook, supplies, CPR certification, exam study guide and prep package, and exam voucher. Nursing scrubs, shoes, and clinical requirements are the responsibility of the student (may be grant funded, if eligible).
Clinical Agency Requirements: A negative TB skin test and proof of vaccinations, to include T-Dap (within 10 years), MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), TB (tuberculosis) & Hepatitis B series, are required to be eligible to participate in the clinical learning experience. If the student is not willing or able to meet these guidelines, P&HCC would have no way to meet their educational needs for completion of the program.
Program Learning Outcomes: Students will demonstrate familiarity with all aspects related to blood collection and demonstrate the skills to perform venipuncture competently and safely.
Occupational Objective: CPT’s work in hospitals, clinics, doctors’ offices, nursing homes, private home care, medical labs, blood donation centers, research institutes, and insurance companies.
Skilled Trades
P&HCC offers the following skilled trades programs, as a National Center for Construction Education & Research accredited college. NCCER is nationally recognized by the construction industry as the standard for training, assessment, certification, and career development for construction and trade professionals. The NCCER curriculum is modular, with an end-of-module exam for each section. Students who successfully complete all modules receive a certificate and a wallet card.
NCCER Core-Introductory Craft Skills
Length: 75 Course Hours
Format: Hybrid (face-to-face, supplemented with online learning)
Purpose: This course serves as the foundational prerequisite for all other NCCER craft programs.
Description: : This course introduces students to basic safety and essential construction and manufacturing knowledge and skills, the foundation for all other NCCER craft programs.

- Perform basic inspection techniques, hitch configurations, and load-handling safety practices, as well as use American National Standards Institute hand signals.
- Interpret information in written and verbal form and communicate effectively using written and verbal skills, as well as using electronic communication devices.
- Effectively use critical thinking, computer, and relationship skills in the construction industry.
- Properly handle materials and move them around the job site, as well as choose the appropriate materials-handling equipment, recognize hazards, and follow materials-handling safety procedures.

NCCER Carpentry Level 1: Carpentry Foundations

Purpose: This rigorous curriculum prepares students for a career as skilled carpenters.
Description: This four-level program provides a comprehensive foundation in carpentry skills, covering various aspects of the craft. Level 1 focuses on basic carpentry skills, including orientation to the trade, building materials, hand and power tools, and introduction to construction drawings and specifications.

Purpose: This rigorous curriculum prepares students for a career as skilled carpenters.
Description: This four-level program provides a comprehensive foundation in carpentry skills, covering various aspects of the craft. Level 2 expands on Level 1 with more advanced topics such as commercial drawings, roofing applications, thermal and moisture protection and exterior finishing.

Description: This four-level program provides a comprehensive foundation in electrical skills, covering various aspects of the craft. Coverage of National Electrical Code® is integrated throughout. Occupational Objective: Electricians install, maintain, and repair electrical systems in structures. This includes wiring, outlets, switches, and lighting fixtures. Students at this certification level are prepared for entry-level support positions in the electrical field, such as electrical helper, electrician trainee, or residential wiring assistant.
NCCER Electrical Level 2: Intermediate Electrical Concepts

Purpose: This comprehensive curriculum prepares students for a career as skilled professionals in the electrical field.
Description: This four-level program provides a comprehensive foundation in electrical skills, covering various aspects of the craft. It places emphasis on safe work practices, while covering applied electrical theory and residential, commercial, and industrial electrical knowledge and skills. Coverage of National Electrical Code® is integrated throughout. Level 2 builds upon Level 1 concepts and focuses on alternating current, motor theory, electric lighting, and circuit breakers.

Program Learning Outcomes: Students will demonstrate proficiency in all areas covered in class, including safety procedures, knots, rigging, proper use of tools and equipment, installation of meter boxes, framing and setting poles, pole top rescue, installation of transformers, reclosers, and sectionalizing devices, ascending and descending wooden and steel structures, pole inspection, installing and removing wiring, and wiring transformers.
Occupational Objective: This one-level Power Line Worker curriculum is the foundational level for three different training pathways: Power Line Worker: Distribution, Power Line Worker: Substation, and Power Line Worker: Transmission.
Power Line CDL Class A Endorsement
Purpose: Many of the vehicles that utility companies use while repairing power lines require a commercial driver’s license to operate.

NCCER Project Management
Length: 117 Course Hours
Format: Hybrid (face-to-face, supplemented with online learning)
Purpose: Prepares students for a career as skilled construction project managers.
Description: This program equips project managers with essential knowledge and skills to plan, coordinate, budget, and supervise construction projects from start to finish, introducing key topics like construction documents, cost control, quality assurance, and leadership skills.
Its modules cover topics such as:

Commercial Driver’s License: Class A Truck Driver Training
Length: 160 Course Hours
Format: Face-to-Face
Purpose: Prepares students for a rewarding career as tractor-trailer drivers who transport goods from one location to another.
Description: Students learn how to inspect and operate tractor trailers and to assume driver responsibilities on the road and at pickup/delivery points. This program prepares students to take the Virginia CDL Class A Endorsement examination. This program is offered in partnership with Ancora Education, who will be your training provider.
Emphasis is placed on the following:
- vehicle inspections
- defensive driving
- range maneuvers
- motor carrier safety regulations
- trip planning
- cargo handling
- size/weight laws
- general maintenance procedures
- accident prevention
Curriculum Requirements:
- Valid Virginia Driver’s License.
- Valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate by passing a DOT physical.
- Class A Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP).
- DOT drug screen with negative results.
- Driving record from DMV for the last 5 years.
Potential Certification: Students who successfully complete the program will be eligible to take the Virginia CDL Class A Endorsement exam.

Occupational Objective: Truck driving is a large industry with great opportunity. As a truck driver, you can choose from a variety of specialties within the occupation. You might work as a local pick-up or delivery driver, and follow the same routes to and from distributing centers and businesses in one regional area. You could work as a long-haul or heavy truck driver and carry goods and products across city and state lines.
Commercial Driver’s License: Class B Truck Driver Training
Length: 120 Course Hours
Format: Face-to-Face
Purpose: Prepares students for operating commercial motor vehicles, such as large passenger buses, segmented buses, box trucks, and dump trucks with small trailers.
Description: This program prepares students to take the Virginia CDL Class B Endorsement examination. A Class B commercial driver license is required to operate a single vehicle with a GVWR of more than 26,000 lbs. while towing another vehicle weighing up to 10,000 lbs. This program is offered in partnership with Ancora Education, who will be your training provider.
Curriculum Requirements:
- Valid Virginia Driver’s License.
- Valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate by passing a DOT physical.
